We're a collaboration of friendship, joyful imaginings and vast experience; coming together to create wines that count. At Loonie Wine Co, every bottle matters. From our vineyards to your glass, care and precision help us make gratifying and approachable wines.
From the signature sea breezes of McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula to the delightfully hidden gem of Kuitpo Forest and the cool charms of the Adelaide Hills – we produce wines that speak wondrously of these unique regions. Working closely in our estate vineyards and with long term growers, we grow grapes that rejoice in the natural conditions of their environs to be the finest example of every vintage.
Long term friends and colleagues, Norm Doole, Mike Farmilo and Nick Whiteway had always dreamed of making wine together. Norm has been growing grapes and making wine in McLaren Vale and at his home vineyard in the Adelaide Hills for over 30 years. Mike Farmilo is one of Australia’s most highly awarded winemakers; producing Penfolds and winning the Jimmy Watson Award for Best Red Wine in Australia, twice. Nick has over 20 years experience in the industry; including vintages in the Napa Valley, USA and the Douro in Portugal, followed by management roles at premium South Australian wineries. Norm, Mike and Nick are joined by Daniel Zuzolo (formerly Primo Estate winemaker) who oversees all vineyard, winery and production activities for Loonie Wine Co.
This melting pot of knowledge and cumulative experience are at the heart of our business and help define our Monterra, Colab & Bloom and Cordelia labels. These wines have garnered the attention of industry, consumers and wine critics alike with their striking packaging and exceptional, premium wines in each and every bottle.
Our wines are constantly evolving, yet always remaining true to their purpose - that is, to be enjoyed and boast the unique qualities of their region, vineyard and variety.
Our estate vineyards are located on Monterra Road, at the southern end of the cooler Adelaide Hills, high above the outskirts of McLaren Vale. In contrast, the Fleurieu Peninsula vineyards enjoy a milder, maritime climate whilst the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale fruit is sourced from vineyards planted in the warmth of ancient soils in the heart of the valley floors.
The vineyards are vastly different in their climate, topography, geology, elevation and aspect. This enables us to select those grape varieties that are best suited to the particular region and provides us with interesting diversity in our wine portfolio. We choose grapes that express their true varietal characteristics: whether it be the delicately fleshy Pinot Gris, racy Sauvignon Blanc or spicy red-fruited Pinot Noir that all thrive in the Adelaide Hills, the renowned, rich-fruited and long lived Shiraz and Cabernet from Barossa and McLaren Vale.
Our constant obsession with chasing low yielding, perfectly ripe, healthy grapes creates delicious wines that evoke a true sense of place.
